The GT Radial Champiro SX2 RS, manufactured at the company’s plant in Richburg, SC, is on quite a roll in Formula DRIFT competition. The ultra-high-performance tire achieved its fifth consecutive podium when driver Chris Forsberg finished third in Round 6 competition in Seattle on Aug. 6.
The success in Seattle followed GT Radial driver Kazuya Taguchi recording a number of firsts at the St. Louis Formula DRIFT competition on July 16. He qualified in first place and backed that up his first-ever podium finish in Formula DRIFT at Round 5.
Round 4 of the Formula DRIFT PRO Championship in New Jersey on June 11 also saw a first – the first-ever win for GT Radial driver Travis Reeder.
Forsberg’s third place in Seattle marks five podium finishes for GT Radial this season, as Forsberg, a three-time Formula DRIFT season champion, also mounted the podium in Orlando and Atlanta.
After achieving his best qualifying result of the season in Seattle, Forsberg was able to convert it into another trip to the podium. He remains fourth overall in driver points standings in the current Formula DRIFT season.
“It’s been an outstanding year for GT Radial in Formula DRIFT competition with two more rounds to go,” said Mike Meeiem, GT Radial motorsports manager. “The tire has performed beautifully, and our teams have been very competitive with several drivers having their best years ever.”
Seven drivers are competing on GT Radial Champiro SX2 RS tires for the eight rounds of the 2022 Formula DRIFT season.
