The GT Radial Champiro SX2 RS, manufactured at the company’s plant in Richburg, SC, has been strong in Formula DRIFT competition all season and finished on a strong note at the Irwindale Speedway on Oct. 15 when driver Jeff Jones finished third. This marked the 6th podium finish for GT Radial in the now completed Formula DRIFT 2022 season, which comprised eight competitions.
In addition to Jones’ success in Irwindale, three-time Formula DRIFT champion Chris Forsberg achieved three podium finishes in Seattle, Atlanta and Orlando. GT Radial scored first-place finishes in St. Louis with driver Kazuya Taguchi and in New Jersey with driver Travis Reeder. GT Radial finished 2nd in the Tire Cup Standings, a remarkable feat considering that GT Radial returned to Formula DRIFT competition just two years ago, and was competing against brands with longtime drifting experience.

Jones delivered some outstanding runs at Irwindale to reach the semi-finals round. In the top 4 semi-final heats, he broke the front subframe on his Evol Auto Works / PRISMA Labs Nissan 370Z during his sighting lap. Unable to repair the car, Jones placed third and reached his first FD PRO podium.
